Pricing
Clear pricing, no surprises.
Most firms send the bill at the end. I put the price in front of you first. Below you’ll find where pricing starts, what each package includes, and what can move the number. Your exact quote comes before any work begins.

What you’re paying for
Plenty of firms can file a return for less. What you’re paying for here is the expertise, research, and review behind every return, and an advisor who knows your situation well enough to find savings others miss.
Fewer clients, more attention.
I limit how many clients I take on, so your return gets my full time and judgment. It also means communication most firms can’t match: real answers, usually well before the next business day, even for Filing Only clients.
Planning comes first.
Most firms price around filling out forms. My work is built around finding every legal way to lower your taxes before the year is over.
No surprises.
You get an exact quote before you commit, and I’ll always tell you before doing work that adds a meaningful cost.

What can move your price
Starting prices cover the simplest version of each return. These are the most common reasons a quote goes up.
Your personal return
- More than one rental property, business, or source of investment activity
- Additional state or local returns, including part-year moves
- K-1s from partnerships, S-Corporations, trusts, or syndications
- Equity compensation: RSUs, stock options, and ESPPs
- Foreign accounts, income, or international reporting
Your business
- More than two partners or shareholders
- Owners who live in other states, and the state filings that follow
- More than one entity, or entities that own other entities
- Activity in multiple states or municipalities
- Books that need cleanup before the return can be prepared
Your history
- Unfiled prior-year returns
- Amended returns
- Records that need to be reconstructed or cleaned up, or that take a lot of back-and-forth to sort out
- Missing basis, depreciation, or carryover information
- Open notices from the IRS or a state
FAQ
Pricing Questions
Why does your pricing look higher than a typical tax preparer’s?
Because the work is different. I take on fewer clients, prepare and review every return myself, and take the time to find every legal way to lower your taxes. For many clients, the savings from planning ahead outweigh the difference in price, though no result is guaranteed.
What does “starting at” mean?
It’s the price for the simplest version of that return or package. Most clients pay somewhat more, depending on what their return includes. You’ll know your exact price before you commit, and it won’t change unless your situation does.
How do you set my exact price?
After our discovery call, I set up your secure client portal so you can upload your prior-year returns. I review them, then send you a proposal with a clear scope and an exact price, along with your engagement letter.
Is the Advisory Package worth it?
For many clients, yes. A plan made before the year ends usually finds savings that a once-a-year filing never sees. No result is guaranteed, but the package is built to keep finding ways to lower your taxes all year. Bought separately, everything it includes would cost more than the package itself.
What’s the difference between a consultation and a planning meeting?
A general consultation is a conversation to answer your questions, billed by the hour, with no research or written deliverables. A planning meeting is the same prepared session Advisory clients get: I review your situation beforehand, run the numbers on your options, and follow up with what to do next.
Why do more partners or shareholders increase the price?
Each owner adds a K-1, more basis and allocation tracking, and often more scrutiny. Owners who live in other states can also add state filings and withholding for the business. Business Filing Only includes up to two owner K-1s, and I’ll quote anything beyond that up front.
Our business has more than one owner. Who does the Business Advisory Package cover?
It includes the business return and one owner’s personal return and planning. If other partners or shareholders want their own returns and planning, I’ll put together a custom quote, or we can focus the package on business-level planning only.
Why isn’t representation priced on this page?
Every notice is different. A simple letter and a full examination aren’t the same amount of work, so I review your notice first and quote a price based on the matter, not the hour. Advisory clients get a $250 credit toward it.
When am I billed?
Filing Only and Advisory Packages are billed in January, or when you sign on if that’s later in the season. If you choose monthly payments for an Advisory Package, installments begin then. Work begins once your first invoice is paid.
Why do you bill up front?
Many firms bill at the end, after the work is done, which is when large unexpected fees tend to show up. Billing up front means you know your price before any work starts, with no surprises at the finish. It also keeps things moving: once you’re committed, it’s easier to get your documents in early, and the whole process runs faster and smoother.
Can I pay for the Advisory Package monthly?
Yes. The Individual Advisory Package is $1,800 per year or $165 per month, and the Business Advisory Package is $4,000 per year or $365 per month. Monthly payments are a convenience, not a month-to-month plan: the package covers the full year.
What if I need to cancel?
You can cancel at any time. You pay only for the services already completed, and anything you’ve paid beyond that is refunded. Your engagement letter spells out the details.
What if I don’t use one of my meetings?
Meetings and projections are available during the year they’re offered. I’ll remind you before time runs out, but services you don’t schedule expire at the end of the term.
Do you charge for extensions?
Filing an extension is free for clients who have signed their engagement letter and paid their fee but don’t have all their documents or information yet. I don’t file extensions for anyone who hasn’t completed onboarding and the engagement process. If you’d like me to calculate an estimated payment to send with the extension, that may be billed separately. Remember that an extension gives you more time to file, not more time to pay.
What isn’t included in a package?
Bookkeeping, payroll filings, prior-year or amended returns, and representation before the IRS or a state are separate. So is in-depth, one-off planning, like an entity or S election analysis, a Roth conversion analysis, or a property sale projection. Those topics often come up in advisory meetings, and we’ll talk them through, but the full analysis and the work to carry them out involve many more details, so they’re scoped and quoted as a separate engagement. I’ll always tell you before doing work that adds a meaningful cost.
What if my situation changes during the year?
Quotes are based on what we know when we start. If your situation becomes more complex, I’ll talk with you about it before any additional fee applies.
